It can be explained in one word: Inflation.

When you have no idea what tomorrow's dollar (or Euro, Ruble, whatever) will buy you, you have no way knowing whether you can afford to start a family.

Ha, that's interesting, thanks for sharing, John! Yep, economy is definitely part of the problem but globally, there seems to be a crisis of perception about one's "readiness" to have children and also, difficulty finding the right person to do it with. They don't say this in the research I'm highlighting but I'm inclined to believe that both women and men have become more cynical, I see it all around me, it's so difficult to find a good person to be one's life partner. And it's also about the way we've laid out modern societies in terms of how we should arrange our priorities in life.

I really recommend this documentary, it raises some really important questions.
